Warning: spoilers for X-Men '97 season 2's finale are ahead

X-Men '97 season 2 may have concluded, but it appears that the third season of the show is promising a showdown between Mystique and the US government, now that anti-mutant politician Graydon Creed - Mystique's son - is President of the United States. Oh, and Mystique has slain the real Valerie Cooper too. 

This was all revealed in the mid-credits scene from X-Men '97 season 2, episode 9, "Survival of the Fittest." We got fleeting scenes of Mystique this season, but the mid-credits scene sets her up to take center stage for season 3. 

Let's also remember that Magneto hit the dust (or should we say, the sand?) this season when he was killed by Apocalypse. So somebody has got to take up the torch of radical mutant liberation, and it's about time Mystique got the opportunity to be the center of mutant drama on the show. 

Now, we're left wondering how Raven will react to the news that her son, Nightcrawler, sacrificed himself so that Rogue and Gambit could be together. That said, she did chuck him off a waterfall when he was just an infant. So who knows what she's got up her sleeve.
