The "Once" of Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood is about to become just a little bit less accurate, as one of its titular characters is returning to the big screen. You probably already know that Cliff Booth, played by Brad Pitt in the aforementioned Quentin Tarantino project, is headlining a spinoff/sequel to the 2019 film in the aptly titled Adventures of Cliff Booth, scheduled for streaming release on Netflix this coming December. But now, Netflix has confirmed that Cliff will be getting the big screen treatment once again before that happens.
The biggest screen treatment, in fact.
The story comes from Deadline, who reported May 20 that Netflix is planning on releasing a limited run for The Adventures of Cliff Booth on no less than IMAX screens before dropping the film on Netflix. Specifically, says the outlet, the sequel will begin screening November 25, grabbing up the IMAX spot left vacant when Greta Gerwig's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew moved from that release window to February of 2027.
In case you don't already know, The Adventures of Cliff Booth is actually directed by David Fincher, with Tarantino himself stepping back into the role of screenwriter. The film will also star heavy hitters like Wonder Man's Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, The Haunting of Hill House's Carla Gugino, and RoboCop himself, Peter Weller.
As to the plot of the sequel, well, there's a lot less we know at this point. We know that it's set in 1977, about 8 years after the events of Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, and that (obviously) Pitt will reprise his role as the possibly uxoricidal stuntman that earned him an Oscar in 2020. But for details beyond that, we're pobably just going to have to wait until the movie takes its (very large) bow on screens this Thanksgiving.
The Adventures of Cliff Booth comes to select IMAX theaters November 25, then will stream on Netflix December 23.
