For his The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power role, Stranger Things' Jamie Campbell Bower channelled J.R.R. Tolkien's real-life romance
The same love that inspired Tolkien's romantic saga Beren and Lúthien will be with Bower as he steps into the role of Celeborn in Rings of Power season 3

Yes, he is undeniably the father of modern fantasy - but let us never forget that The Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien is also a card-carrying wife guy. The relationship he had with Edith Tolkien (née Bratt) is one of the loveliest in literary history, and today, their graves are side by side and inscribed with the names Beren and Lúthien, referring to the romantic saga Tolkien built up as the greatest in all Middle-earth history.
So you can understand why, when Jamie Campbell Bower was cast in The Rings of Power as a romantic character, he was pulling from the real romance of his character's creator.
Bower recently sat down with Empire Magazine for their summer issue, which came out in advance of Prime Video's season 3 of the Middle-earth adaptation. "I was thinking," the Stranger Things actor recounted, "'Where does my heart and my creative brain want to be? Where do I want to be?' I was like, 'It has to be love.'"
Similar to the time Tolkien spent apart from his wife during WWI, Bower points to the ages his character Celeborn has spent away from his wife, Galadriel.
"This idea of longing and yearning is so pervasive in Tolkien's relationship with Edith for the time that they were apart," Bower said, "I really feasted on that idea. Celeborn has had to find a way to survive whilst longing for something that he so dearly loved and so dearly missed as well."
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3 premieres on Prime Video November 11.
