The Boys switch-up: Gen V cancelled, producers tease "other VCU projects on the horizon"

Bad news for fans of Godolkin University, as Prime Video is not moving ahead with a third season of Gen V

The future of Vought International is changing shape, as the final season of Prime Video’s The Boys races towards its conclusion on May 20.

Deadline reports that Prime Video will not be renewing spin-off series Gen V for a third season as was anticipated, with producers instead suggesting that something else might be taking the show’s place in the future.

The second season of Gen V completed its run in October 2025, leading into the fifth and final season of The Boys as the core cast joined the resistance against Homelander after escaping Godolkin University. Gen V cast members London Thor, Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, Asa Germann and Keeya King all make appearances in The Boys season 5 as a result, but beyond that, though…? Well, that’s suddenly surprisingly unclear.

What’s interesting is that executive producers of The Boys and Gen V Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg don’t seem to be treating this as an ending for the characters. In a statement provided to Deadline, they said, “While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon. You’ll see them again.”

Following the May 20 end to The Boys and the news that Gen V will not return for a third season, only two extensions of what Prime Video is calling the Vought Cinematic Universe have been announced: Vought Rising, a prequel to The Boys that has already wrapped production on its first season — it’s anticipated to debut at some point in 2027 — and The Boys: Mexico, an in-development project announced in 2023 but still shrouded in mystery. However, there’s something in that statement that makes us wonder if we should be adding an even-more-mysterious third show to the list…

The Boys season 5 continues on Prime Video weekly through May 20.

They are brash, unforgiving, and a little rough around the edges... and they're the good guys! The heroes of Prime Video's The Boys, led by Karl Urban's Butcher, go up against the 'superheroes' that is the Seven, led by Anthony Starr's Homelander, leader of the Seven. With that show's five seasons plus spinoffs such as Gen V, Diabolical, and reportedly more, there's a lot to the Boys Franchise, and we're here to help... with:
