The live-action version of Disney’s Gargoyles is definitively dead, says creator

It looks like the characters of the beloved 90s cartoon, Gargoyles, will remain frozen in stone for the foreseeable future... or, at least, in comic book form.
In an interview with Comics Online at Fan Expo Chicago, Gargoyles creator Greg Weisman revealed the bad news about the Disney+ live-action show that was announced to be in development in 2023. "Well, I know the live-action side of it is, uh, the Atomic Monster had the license to develop a live-action Gargoyles for Disney+, and that’s dead. I have no idea about animation, but there are no current plans for live-action," Weisman said, referring to James Wan's production company, Atomic Monster.
Gary Dauberman, best known as the screenwriter behind the Annabelle films and assorted Stephen King adaptations like It, It: Chapter Two, and Salem's Lot, was slated to write, executive produce, and showrun the live-action Gargoyles.
Now, if you're looking to fill a Gargoyles-shaped void in your life, look no further than the current line of Gargoyles comics from Dynamite Entertainment, written by Weisman himself, that launched earlier this month. Dynamite's 2026 Gargoyles series follows the previous series that ran for twelve issues between late 2022 and 2024. You've got options, now that the live-action show is dead.
Is there a chance that we could see an animated Gargoyles show revival? Never say never. Even Weisman himself doesn't know what the future has in store.
