The stars of Critical Role will never be ready to retire Vox Machina completely
The Critical Role cast might be willing to walk away from their Vox Machina characters "when we're dead." So hopefully not soon.

It has been more than a decade since we were first introduced to Vox Machina. Since Critical Role campaign one ended in 2017, the members of Vox Machina have returned in one-shots, special events, cameos in subsequent campaigns, and their own animated series. However, even after playing Vox Machina for so long, none of the Critical Role cast are ready to retire them yet.
“When we’re dead,” Marisha Ray bluntly says when we asked the Critical Role cast if they would ever formally retire their Vox Machina characters. “Certainly not anytime soon," she later adds.
“When our voices won’t support the character sounds anymore, maybe?” Travis Willingham agrees. “That’s what animation is good for. We show up in our pajamas and other not appropriate for public consumption attire and just act ridiculous.”
“If the world will still have us,” Ashley Johnson says. “We will still be doing it until we are old and grey.”
“I can’t imagine it,” admits Taliesin Jaffe.
“I would say that we would definitely retire them when we all die,” Sam Riegel confirms. “But I don’t even know if that’s true. I wouldn’t mind seeing someone reboot it when we’re old and grey. That would be so cool.”
“I’m all for it,” Liam O’Brien says. “I’m all for that, but for now, there’s us around the table. There’s always animations. Someday, maybe, live action. Someday maybe interactive. There’s so many ways for us to explore Exandria. We have so many threads left to pull that we all want to pull on.”
So even as The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 looms close and Season 5 brings the main story of Campaign 1 to an end, the entire cast of Critical Role have no intention of retiring these beloved characters anytime soon.
With two animated series on Prime Video, Campaign 4 in full swing, and so much more Exandrian lore to come, Critical Role is showing no signs of slowing down. That's why the adventuring party at Popverse are here to bring you everything we can from those nerdy-ass voice actors & Bo., including:
- Critical Role release schedule
- Critical Role's Campaign 4 characters ranked
- How to watch Critical Role in order
- Ways for you to relive the Critical Role panel from ECCC '26
- Taliesin Jaffe on playing Mollymauk Tealeaf for Campaign 2 vs. playing him for Prime Video
- Matt Mercer's homebrew warrior class (created originally for Vin Diesel)
...and much, much more. Roll initiative, player. Magic awaits.
