The announcement that we’re getting Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 was as shocking to us as it was delightful, and we’ve been waiting to find out more ever since the return to Night City was first announced back in July 2025. That wait may be about to end, thankfully, as CD Projekt Red - the makers of the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise - has confirmed that some big reveals are coming in early July at their Anime Expo 2026 panel.

The presence of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners at Anime Expo 2026 isn’t particularly surprising; that is where the series was first confirmed to be in development by studio Trigger. To hype up their panel at the upcoming Anime Expo, the production team confirmed that a “first look at the next standalone story from Night City” would be shown on July 3, 2026.

That gives us just over a month to figure out what form that first look will take. It is likely a short teaser trailer with the first footage of the new characters we’ll be introduced to in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2; with most of the cast meeting a bittersweet end in the first season, there are a lot of new faces to flesh out. It is probably too early for a release date announcement, but confirmation of a general release window of 2027 doesn’t feel out of the question.

For those who don't remember, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was originally announced in 2020 before debuting on Netflix in September 2022; a top-ten series following its premiere, it was credited at the time with pushing Cyberpunk 2077 sales past the 20-million mark. The show acts as a standalone prequel to Cyberpunk 2077, introducing the Night City setting without actively setting up storypoints from the game itself. But perhaps that could change with this second season...!

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is currently in development by Trigger and will stream on Netflix. Not much is known about it yet, but we’re hoping that will change on July 3, 2026 at Anime Expo.
