I probably don't have to tell you this, reader, but the X-Men are coming to the MCU in a big way. You might recall Popverse reporting over the weekend that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has found its Emma Frost in Ready or Not star Samara Weaving, and now, another icon of modern horror is talking about an (unconfirmed) role in Marvel's Mighty Mutant Menagerie. Get this, gang: Obsession star Inde Navarrette wants to play Mystique.

The story comes from a Variety article posted July 31, itself pulling from an episode of the Up Next podcast, in which the breakout star of this summer's horror smash hit confirmed that she'd been talking to director Jake Schreier. Schreier, if you'll recall, is not only the person who helmed the (highly underrated, in this writer's opinion) 2025 film Thunderbolts, but is also the official director of the MCU's first X-Men outing.

"I thought what Jake brought to Thunderbolts," the actor said, "Was what I used to love about Marvel [...] It was character-driven, and the whole time I just couldn’t stop yapping about how much I appreciated what he did with Marvel."

Later in the discussion, Navarrette spoke to how she could imagine working with Schreier down the line, saying, "I mean, Mystique has always been super cool."

Again, we want to stress that in no way is Navarrette confirming her casting as the X-Men villain Mystique. Hell, she's not even saying for sure here that she'll be involved in the MCU's X-Men at all. The only thing we can say for sure about the character is that Rebecca Romijn is returning to the role she once pioneered in Avengers: Doomsday, out this holiday season. 

Still, though, if anyone's got one of those One Wish Willow things and wants to make this happen, we wouldn't be mad.

Obsession is in theaters now. Mystique will return in Avengers: Doomsday, out December 18, played one more (and maybe final) time by Rebecca Romijn.
