What if Steven Spielberg's western is a Westworld remake?

Jurassic Park screenwriter, David Koepp, is gearing up to head back to Westworld, the Wild West-themed amusement park first brought to cinemas in 1973 by Michael Crichton. But is Koepp bringing his Jurassic Park director, Steven Spielberg, to the project? Let's examine the evidence.

Deadline first reported that Koepp "will revisit Westworld, the 1973 film written and directed by Crichton about an adult fantasy park that allows monied guests with a hankering for the Old West to go up against a coterie of robots wielding six-guns." Yes, Westworld was a movie starring Yul Brynner and James Brolin before it was an HBO show with Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, and Ed Harris. It's also worth noting that "Koepp is writing the script and a major filmmaker is circling," according to Deadline. So, how "major" are we talking about?

Earlier this month, Spielberg said that he's been developing a western movie. "I’m developing a western, and it’s going to have - there will be guns. But there will be no tropes. I can just tell you that. There are going to be no stereotypes, no tropes."

Recently, Koepp and Spielberg collaborated on the director's upcoming sci-fi movie, Disclosure Day, with Koepp writing the script. Before that, Spielberg executive-produced last summer's Jurassic World: Rebirth, which Koepp wrote. Surely the duo has another collaboration in the works, given their long history of collaborations?

Hopefully, we'll know before long who the director of Koepp's Westworld film is.
