The great thing about horror is that it can come from anywhere, which is part of what makes the V/H/S franchise work. Rather than being one director guiding everything, it functions as a sort of collective, with different people producing segments of each film. The next film in the series, V/H/S: SCP, has just been announced with a release date for next year.

The V/H/S found footage franchise started with the original V/H/S movie in 2012. Since then, it has grown into eight films, two spin-off movies, and a miniseries. Each movie features a collection of footage that highlights a supernatural occurrence. They tend to be visceral, violent, and short, meaning that fans have just enough time to get creeped out by what they’ve seen before it switches to a new segment.

V/H/S: SCP is a new direction for the series. It focuses on the SCP Foundation, a collective fiction project that originated on, of all things, 4chan back in 2007, and has developed into an online resource for all the creepypasta things that the Internet comes up with. The SCP (Special Containment Procedures) Foundation investigates the weird stuff that goes bump in the night and documents it, which is where the crossover with the V/H/S series seems to come in.

V/H/S: SCP will be framed as a collection of “recovered field documentation” that has been put together in one film. Each segment will focus on a different event that the SCP is looking to contain.

The release date for V/H/S: SCP is, as of right now, 2027.
