Timothée Chalamet really will return as Wonka, eventually, says screenwriter
Rumors that Wonka 2 had been "delayed indefinitely" were, apparently, greatly exagerated.

The entertainment world is currently Timothée Chalamet’s oyster. With Dune 3 about to hit cinemas in December, he’s become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood at the moment. He’s got his pick of projects and is reportedly trying to decide what he wants to do next. According to the co-writer of 2023’s Wonka, a sequel to that prequel film is ready to go as soon as the star is ready to sign on.
During an interview that covered the impressive scale of Simon Farnaby’s career, which includes BBC sitcom Ghosts and the Paddington film series, the topic of Wonka 2 came up. Farnaby assured fans that there were still plans to do the follow-up to 2023’s Wonka, with the only real stumbling block being Timothée Chalamet himself.
“He wants to do one, but he’s not sure about timing or what he wants to do next,” Simon Farnaby explained. He believes that Wonka 2 is “delayed indefinitely.”
Interestingly, Warner Bros. refuted the claim that there was a delay on Wonka 2; they responded via a spokesperson to say, “Reports suggesting a Wonka 2 delay are entirely false. The Wonka creative team is hard at work on the next chapter.”
To clarify, Farnaby later explained that his comments had been taken slightly out of context. “I 100% did not say Wonka 2 wasn’t happening. A sequel was always the plan,” he said in a social media post, adding that there was already a “great script” ready. “Timmy wants to do it (like I said!) it’s just about working out schedules and making sure it’s as fantastic as we know it can be – and these things take a little time. Very sorry for any confusion!”
So the long-awaited Wonka sequel is definitely going ahead; they’re just waiting for star Timothée Chalamet to have a couple of months free to film it.
