Did Spider-Man's new movie get a sneaky rewrite from the man behind Challengers?

It looks like, once again, Tom Holland let a little detail slip while talking about Spider-Man: No Way Home

With just over a month to go before Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits cinemas, a new wrinkle of intrigue has come out. Thanks to a slip by legendarily loose-lipped Tom Holland, it seems that a new name may be attached to the screenplay. Justin Kuritzkes, who wrote Challengers, could be the new writer for the wallcrawler’s latest entry from Marvel Studios.

This is all a little bit of speculation based on a statement by Tom Holland on a recent podcast appearance. While recalling a particularly difficult conversation with director Destin Daniel Cretton, Holland explained how they decided to change one scene while shooting. “And what I love about Destin is he’s so calm. There’s nothing that could throw him off,” Tom Holland explained. “And he just kind of listened, and he sat down, and he was like, ‘Well, what is it that you’re trying to feel?’ And I told him, and he went, ‘Yeah, you’re right. That’s exactly what we need to be feeling.’ So, he said to the crew, ‘Everyone can go home. We’re going to sit down, and we’re going to rewrite this scene with the writer, Justin,’ who is such a talent. And we came in the next day, we reshot the scene, and I’m so glad that we did because it sings in the movie. It really does.”

The interesting thing about this statement is that there is no “Justin” listed on the screenplay credits for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Unless Tom Holland misspoke when he mentioned this mystery screenwriter, it begs the question of who exactly wrote Spider-Man: Brand New Day. We know that the movie got a big retool when Holland went off to shoot Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, so it seems that they might have brought in someone else to rewrite the script during that time.

The name that has been circulating as a potential answer is Justin Kuritzkes, who has previously worked with Spider-Man: Brand New Day star Zendaya on 2024’s Challengers. Kuritzkes has previously worked on DC Studios’ Sgt. Rock movie before it was indefinitely delayed by James Gunn. However, all of this is still speculation until someone at Marvel Studios confirms that Justin Kuritzkes is the new writer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
