Every Scream movie is essentially about asking 'who's next,' whether that question applies to the perps behind the Ghostface mask or the victims that they claim. Recently, though, Scream fans are getting a little bit of that same question in the real world, as a giant hint seems to have dropped regarding the director(s!) of the franchise's next installment, Scream 8. 

As rumor has it, the chairs are going to Jen & Sylvia Soska, the duo responsible for 2012's American Mary and 2024's Festival of the Living Dead.

The mystery began on August 7, when a Scream fan account under the handle @screamerboy95 posted to social media regarding an unverified rumor. Scream's IP holder Spyglass, said the post, was evidently considering the Soskas as the directors for Scream's next cinematic installment, officially its eighth. Obviously, the internet is awash in unverified rumors like this one, and if the trail ended there, we wouldn't be reporting on it.

But then the Soska Sisters themselves retweeted the post.

Not with a confirmation, mind you, but with an "eyes watching" emoji. Usually that points to at least something going on behind the scenes, and the fact that this is indeed the official Twitter account of the Soskas makes it well worth watching. 

If Jen & Sylvia Soska do end up directing Scream 8, it will be the latest in a line of franchise horror that the duo have worked on, having helmed the second See No Evil film and also Festival of the Living Dead, a 2024 entry to George A. Romero's classic zombie saga. In other words, you have your viewing homework cut out for you, Scream fans.

The Scream films are streaming on Paramount+ now.
