Hot off the announcement that Ghostbusters star McKenna Grace will be joining the Scream franchise, Deadline reports that Sam Rechner of The Fablemans will also be joinging the Ghostface-hunting squad in the next Scream movie, the seventh in the franchise's long history. The move points to the idea that, even though stars Courtney Cox and Neve Campbell are returning to the movie, the film will also include a gang of teens that harken back to its slasher origins.

But weren't there already a gang of misfits going toe-to-toe with one of horror's most iconic killers in the last movie? well, yes, and even though they survived that batch of Woodsboro (I mean, New York) slayings, forces outside of the movies led to their departure. As you'll recall Popverse reporting, star Melissa Barrera (Sam Carpenter) was fired from the film following statements the actor made regarding the Israel-Hamas War. Her onscreen sister, Jenna Ortega, willingly left the production shortly thereafter.

Scream 7 continued production, however, confirming that franchise stars Cox and Campbell, who play Sydney Prescott and . But after Rechner and Grace's involvement, it appears the franchise still would like to continue the story they began in the 2022 Scream update/sequel. That is, the decades-long history between Prescott and a host of psycopaths, as well as the still-young people that it affects in the modern day. Fortunately for Rechner's and Grace's characters, Sydney has done a pretty great job tackling Ghostface in the past - let's hope that she discovers who the new one is before anybody gets hurt.

Then again, there's a darker side to the December 13 announcements as well. Remember, every time a Scream movie adds a potential victim to the cast, it also adds a potential killer...
