Ready or Not and Scream 6 directors to somehow bring Choose Your Own Adventure to the big screen
We have plenty of fond memories of making terrible decisions in those books, but how will a Choose Your Own Adventure movie actually work?

If you were a book-obsessed kid in the 80s and 90s, chances are good that you had tried out the Choose Your Own Adventure series at some point. Bantam Books churned out dozens of them over the years, and their influence can be felt in the branching narratives in video games like Dispatch or Baldur’s Gate 3. However, the iconic series is making the jump to the big screen as the Ready or Not and Scream directors have signed up to direct a Choose Your Own Adventure movie.
Our first question, of course, is how they’re going to make the Choose Your Own Adventure format work in a movie. The books, as the name implies, were famous for giving readers the chance to pick what they did at various points along the story, resulting in nearly limitless options to reread to find different paths and endings. Sort of like how fans kept finding new endings in Dispatch weeks after the game came out. How do you replicate that in a film for a theater full of people?
20th Century Studios is hoping that Radio Silence, the collective filmmakers responsible for Ready or Not and the most recent Scream films, will have an answer to that question. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from Radio Silence are writing the script along with Tom Bissell, whose writing credits include Andor and The Disaster Artist. No plot details for the team’s Choose Your Own Adventure movie have been released, but presumably it will have to wait until after they work on the long-awaited new Mummy movie with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
Whatever form the Choose Your Own Adventure movie takes, we will likely be waiting a few years before the Ready or Not and Scream directors bring it to the big screen.
