The upcoming Magic: The Gathering set, Reality Fracture, is going to crack the very foundations of the Magic multiverse. The premise for Reality Fracture is that planeswalker Jace Beleren has created an entire new universe called the Echoverse that inverts the Magic multiverse as we know it. For instance, noted pyromancer Chandra Nalaar's Echoverse counterpart has ice powers and is the color blue instead of red. So what's fair is foul and foul is fair. 

The idea of the Echoverse also applies to the cards themselves. So if you've been playing Magic for a while, you might be familiar with the card Craterhoof Behemoth, which first debuted in the Avacyn Restored set in 2012. Craterhoof Behemoth is a green creature that grants trample to all creatures you control, along with counters on them equal to the number of said creatures. So in other words, it's a massive asset to players running green decks. 

Reality Fracture inverts Craterhoof Behemoth by transforming it into a red card called Craterclaw Colossus. Instead of empowering creatures, Craterclaw Colossus "cares about artifacts" "in a red way," said Magic head of design Mark Rosewater at MagicCon Amsterdam. The idea behind reworking a card like Craterhoof Behemoth for Reality Fracture is that it allows players to play these new card spinoffs in a "completely different deck" than the original. 

Overall, cards like Craterclaw Colossus embody the "what if" spirit that is the core of Reality Fracture. And as we get closer to the set's October 2 release date, we will probably see more examples of cards like this.
