Magic: The Gathering is constantly evolving. And with the game bigger now than it ever has been before, it's an apt time for the game's brain trust to get together and take a closer look at the Commander format. What's working, and what isn't working? In a matter of months, all will be revealed. 

In a video posted to YouTube, Magic's Principal Designer, Gavin Verhey, ahead of this week's Banned and Restricted card announcements, assured Commander fans that while there would be no immediate changes to the format, the format will be evaluated for potential changes next month. "Next month, the whole Commander format panel is coming to Wizards of the Coast. We're going to talk about any potential changes to the format, including banned and restricted updates. But I'm not expecting any changes to happen until sometime after that meeting," said Verhey. 

In case you're not familiar, Magic is very communicative when it comes to announcements of new banned and restricted cards across the game's various formats. Magic understands that banning certain cards may result in lots of players having to reconfigure the decks they've made around those cards to begin with. If you're curious, the cards that were banned in Standard this week are Badgermole Cub, Stormchaser's Talent, and Gran-Gran.
