Deborah Ann Woll answers: Which D&D classes are best for the Daredevil: Born Again characters?

Is Matt Murdock a fighter? Could Wilson Fisk be a rogue? Daredevil star and pro DM Woll has the answers

Deborah Ann Woll isn't just any nerd. As the person who portrays Karen Page in Daredevil: Born Again, Woll is one of the most beloved comic book media actors working today. Then, in a completely different sector of geekdom, Woll is an accomplished Dungeon Master and one of the minds behind groundbreaking TTRPG/reality series Tales from Woodcreek. Those are accomplishments that very few people have seen in a career, and so when I got to speak with her about it, I had a specific question about how they overlapped.

Namely, what would the characters of Daredevil be classified as in a game of D&D?

Some context here - I spoke to Woll ahead of the second season of Tales from Woodcreek heading to Kickstarter (the campaign launched August 11). The show, which mixes escape room puzzles with on-camera D&D gaming, has previously seen other familiar Marvel Cinematic Universe faces during its first outing (Ms. Marvel's Iman Vellani and Anjali Bhimani, to be specific), so it seemed only natural to bring up class specifics for Woll's closest MCU buddies.

"We always talk about like Daredevil," began the True Blood star, "As kind of almost like a paladin monk. You've got to get the religion in there, but he's very hand-to-hand combat based. So that kind of feels right to me. Foggy would be kind of a bard. But I almost might give him wizard, because he's very intelligent. It's a little magical how he gets done what he gets done."

"Kingpin," she continued, "I mean, he's part barbarian, that's for sure, but like noble barbarian or something like that. Because you've got to have that power. He's got to have that."

For villain Bullseye, Woll landed on the Ranger class due to their propensity for aim. And then for Spider-Man: Brand New Day fan-favorite Punisher, Woll had to give the idea some thought.

"Castle, I don't know," she concluded, "Straight up fighter with, like, a really messy background?"

I mean, that sounds right to me.

Tales from Woodcreek season 2 is running on Kickstarter now
