Tony Daniel says DC is sitting on three finished issues of a new, unannounced Batman series he's already drawn

Long time Batman artist Tony Daniel says he drew one more Batman story that has yet to come out

Writer/artist Tony Daniel has a long history with Batman, and it turns out he's not quite done with the Caped Crusader, as the creator says he's finished several issues of a yet-unpublished Batman story.

Daniel made a name for himself as both a writer on Batman and an artist, with a particularly notable artistic run alongside legendary writer Grant Morrison in the Batman RIP era, a story of Batman's apparent death and return that still finds readers to this day.

Speaking to AiPT, Daniel explains that, while his recent exclusive contract with DC has ended, allowing him to become the current artist of X-Men, he's still got some issues under his belt that have yet to be released.

"I have been freelancing, doing covers for both Marvel and DC for a year or so after I wrapped up a few years doing indie books at Image. I’ve expressed my interest in returning to Marvel to do some books over the years. But I had been exclusive with DC for so long; it’s been a while since I was free from exclusivity," Daniel says. "After I wrapped up three issues of a yet-to-be-published Batman story, I let the nice folks at Marvel know that I was finally freed up. Soon after that, I got an email from Tom Brevoort who asked if I’d be down for doing some X-Men. It was super casual, no high expectations on me, just do a good job, and the rest will take care of itself."

Daniel doesn't name the story, but it's likely that it's a planned three-issue series written by Jeremy Adams that the artist teased back in 2025, posting pencils from one of the pages on his Instagram. It's still unclear what that series will be titled or what it will involve, though the art that Daniel showcased features Batman taking on a gang of bikers armed with katanas.

For now, Daniel is working on the ongoing X-Men title alongside writer Jed MacKay, with the book headed for a big crossover with the Fantastic Four in this summer's DNX.

Daniel's original post of the still-unpublished Batman story states that the creator is expecting a 2026 release date, so hopefully we won't have to wait much longer.
