Slow Horses Season 5 recap: What you need to remember before Season 6 debuts on Apple TV
The acclaimed British spy series starring Gary Oldman will be returning with new episodes this fall
In Slow Horses, Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) is the unkempt, rude spymaster who leads a team of misfit MI5 agents seemingly despite his better judgment - and it's a good thing, considering how useful they've proven to be even if it doesn't appear so at the time. Good news for the show's many fans: the critically acclaimed series will be returning to Apple TV+ with Season 6 on September 16th, 2026.
What is Slow Horses?
Slow Horses follows the employees of Slough House, a banishment room for MI5 rejects overseen by Lamb. The location is meant to provide those who have failed at their assignments (but not failed hard enough to be fired) with tedious work with the expectation that they will eventually quit the service in frustration. However, despite the intention, the Slow Horses frequently become embroiled in cases that might affect the very future of the United Kingdom itself.
The show is called Slow Horses after the derogatory name given to the agents places at Slough House, due to how similar 'Slow Horse' and 'Slough House' sound when spoken aloud.
How did Slow Horses Season 5 end?
Throughout Slow Horses Season 5, MI5 Director General Claude Whelan (James Callis) schemed to close Slough House. However, his machinations were ultimately waylaid by Lamb, who blackmails him and forces him to resign from his position. Whelan is subsequently replaced by Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) as the head of Slough House. Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung) is freed after being held on suspicion of leaking classified information to terrorists, and River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) is denied his promotion, ensuring that he remains at Slough House for the foreseeable future instead of rejoining MI5's active agents.
Is there a trailer for Slow Horses Season 6?
As of writing, there is no trailer for the new season of Slow Horses. Traditionally, trailers for the show are released just weeks before the season debuts. However, as with all seasons of Slow Horses, a sizzle reel for the season was attached to the final episode of Season 5.
Season 6 of Slow Horses will debut on Apple TV+ on September 16th, 2026.
