Chicago Med Season 11 recap: What to remember before Season 12 debuts on NBC

The medical element of One Chicago will launch its 12th season in October 2026

The One Chicago franchise has been a huge hit for NBC, beginning with Chicago Fire and expanding to include two ongoing spinoffs, including the third installment in the franchise, Chicago Med. With the release date for Chicago Med Season 12 on NBC looming, you may ready for a refresher on what to remember about the Chicago Med Season 11 finale. Well, Popverse has you covered!

What is Chicago Med?

Co-created by Law & Order's Dick Wolf, Chicago Med follows the personal and professional lives of the medical staff at the fictional Gaffney Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. The series officially launched in November 2015, but an episode of Chicago Fire Season 3 (Episode 19, 'I Am The Apocalypse,' which aired in April 2015) acted as a backdoor pilot for the show, introducing some of the original characters.

The cast of characters includes S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, Oliver Platt as Dr. Daniel Charles, Steven Weber as Dr. Dean Archer, Jessy Schram as Dr. Hannah Asher, Luke Mitchell as Dr. Mitch Ripley, Sarah Ramos as Dr. Caitlin Lenox and Darren Barnet as Dr. John Frost.

What happened in the Chicago Med Season 11 finale?

The Season 11 finale of Chicago Med left multiple plot lines in play. Dr. Goodwin's position is hanging in the balance after she confronted questionable behavior within the hospital's administration, with a power struggle likely to ensue. Dr. Ripley and Dr. Lenox must deal with the fallout of Lenox's terminal diagnosis. After surviving a hostage situation, Dr. Asher gives birth to a baby girl, resulting in Dr. Archer confessing his romantic feelings for her. And meanwhile, Dr. Charles finds his position in the hospital at risk in the wake of lingering conflicts with the staff.

The release date for the first episode of Chicago Med Season 12 is Wednesday, October 7th, 2026 at 8:00 PM ET/7:00 PM CT, with new episodes streaming the next day on Peacock.
