Boston Blue Season 2 on CBS: Release date, timeslot, cast, and that Season 1 cliffhanger

The Donnie Wahlberg police procedural is a spinoff of long-running hit Blue Bloods

The first season finale of Boston Blue aired on May 22nd, 2026, leaving fans wondering about the fate of Lena's boyfriend Brian, who was hit by a mystery driver in the final moments of the episode - just hours after Lena herself had survived a near-fatal shooting. How long will everyone have to wait for an answer? Boston Blue has been renewed for Season 2, with new episodes airing in the fall of 2026.

Boston Blue is a police procedural that is a spinoff of Blue Bloods which follows NYPD detective-turned-Boston PD detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg). In Boston, Reagan works alongside Boston Police detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green). The series also stars Ernie Hudson as Reverend Edwin Peters, Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver and Mika Amonsen as Sean Reagan. The show features several additional crossover characters from Blue Bloods, including Bridget Moynahan as Erin Reagan, Len Cariou as Henry Reagan and Will Hochman as Detective Joe Hill.

When it comes to resolving the first season cliffhanger, Martin-Green said in an interview, "I got to big up the [visual] effects and the special effects of that scene because my goodness, it just feels so real. You really feel like you’re in that car with him, and it just stabs you in the heart. I applaud the story and the writers and the showrunners and our [post-production] crew, as well as Ryan [Broussard, who plays Brian] for the moment, man. I know that we’re going to get into it, but I don’t know if we’re going to pick right up at that cliffhanger."

Boston Blue Season 2 will be arriving in fall 2026. CBS hasn't officially announced a return date for the show, but it has confirmed the show will air on Fridays at 10pm Eastern and Pacific, 9pm Central. Based on CBS's past schedules, Boston Blue Season 2 should begin mid-October 2026.
