Marvel Phase 7 currently consists of three confirmed movies in 2028: X-Men, Ghost Rider, and Black Panther III. These are the first Marvel Studios releases scheduled after 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, giving us our first look at the MCU's next era. What that era looks like after Doctor Doom has had a chance to remake everything in his own image is another question entirely.

When does Marvel Phase 7 start?

The first confirmed Marvel Phase 7 movie is X-Men, which has the release date of May 5, 2028.

Who are the new X-Men in Marvel Phase 7?

The new MCU X-Men movie is scheduled for May 5, 2028 and will introduce a new generation of mutants to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The initial cast of X-Men was revealed at D23 Expo 2026.

When is Ghost Rider coming to the MCU?

Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider will be released July 28, 2028. Will the character debut before that movie? That's unknown, but Marvel does have a history of teasing new characters or concepts early — see Spider-Man: Brand New Day's introduction of Jean Grey (Sadie Sink) as proof. When is Black Panther 3 coming out?

Marvel's Black Panther 3 will be released December 15, 2028, with David Jonsson taking on the role of Black Panther. There's some confusion over whether or not the movie's title is officially Black Panther 3 or Black Panther III, not helped by Marvel's official page for the site using a logo that calls it Black Panther III even as the text of the page calls it "Marvel Studios' Black Panther 3." It's worth remembering that the second Black Panther movie was released under the title Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, suggesting that the final title of the movie might drop any numbering in favor of a subtitle. Whatever the movie will be called in theaters, it will star a new actor behind the hero's mask. We can introduce you to the new Black Panther here.

How many movies will Marvel Phase 7 have?

To date, only X-Men, Black Panther 3, and Ghost Rider have been confirmed by Marvel, and assumed to be part of Marvel Phase 7. (Officially, Marvel Studios has not assigned post-Secret Wars projects as Phase 7, and might change assignations at some point in the future.)

These are the only three movies considered Phase 7 announced to date by Marvel, but there will be more revealed in the coming months and years. For comparison, Phase 6 had four movies and eight TV projects, while Phase 5 had six movies and nine TV projects. The ‘busiest’ Phase cinematically was Phase 3, with 11 movies, although Phase 4 was larger overall with 17 projects: seven movies and 10 TV projects.

Future MCU projects rumored to be in development

 

Multiple Marvel Studios projects are rumored to be in development, as has been the case since the success of the first Iron Man movie back in 2008. Traditionally, the veracity of said rumors is always in question, with genuine sources mixing with fan speculation to create a confused idea of what is and what isn’t actually in the works. Here are the projects we feel confident about:

• Doctor Strange 3: Benedict Cumberbatch has stated in interviews that a third solo Doctor Strange movie is in development.
• Shang-Chi 2: Both director Destin Daniel Cretton and star Simu Liu have talked at multiple points about development on a second solo outing for Shang-Chi.

Additionally, further outings for the Thunderbolts and the Fantastic Four would appear to be likely, but we’ll see if that continues to be true after Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Further, while nothing has been officially announced, given the significant success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day (as of writing, it's the sixth most successful film in global box office history, and climbing), as well as star Tom Holland’s stated openness to return as Peter Parker — not to mention the unresolved plot lines from Brand New Day itself — a sequel to Spider-Man: Brand New Day and fifth solo outing for Holland as Peter Parker feels all but guaranteed.
