If aliens came to Earth and humanity had to designate one human to liaise with these visitors, we should choose Philomena Cunk. Obviously, Cunk is a character played by actress Diane Morgan, but I can't think of anyone else who would provide a more entertaining experience for the aliens. If we've learned anything from Cunk on Earth, it's that Philomena Cunk asks the right questions to get at the significance of human history.
Thankfully, for all of us, Philomena Cunk is back in a new nature-focused mockumentary called Cunk on Life. Cunk on Life is set to release on Netflix on January 2, 2025. In a trailer for the upcoming film, Cunk can be seen roaming Yosemite National Park and other spectacular landscapes, asking questions to the camera like "What do the creatures want? And why do they refuse to tell us?" Cunk admits that she herself has never wondered what the meaning of life is, but she's willing to sit down with a few scholars and "professional mammals" to get down to the bottom of it.
In case this is your first experience with her, Cunk on Earth was a television miniseries from BBC Two where Morgan's delightfully oblivious Philomena Cunk traveled around the world to ask historians hard-hitting questions like whether or not a mummy has ever ridden a bicycle. Morgan's deadpan delivery of Cunk's outlandish questions and statements like, "One of the reasons we still know a lot about the Romans today is Wikipedia" makes the character lovable despite her misunderstanding of the world around her.
Luckily for all of us, we don't have to wait much longer for Philomena Cunk to enlighten us once more.
Cunk on Life will release on Netflix on January 2, 2025.
