You could reasonably use Magic: The Gathering sets to keep track of time. After all, a new set comes out every month and a half or so, so you wouldn’t be too far off the Gregorian calendar if you decided to purely measure time through MTG sets. That said, I wouldn’t exactly recommend it, but to each their own. So with that in mind, we've put together an MTG release schedule for 2026.

Anyways, you’re probably wondering what the future looks like for upcoming Magic: The Gathering sets. Don’t worry, we’ve got all the info for the MTG release schedule this year. So strap in and hold on to your butts, because things are probably about to get expensive very quickly.

Magic: The Gathering release calendar 2026:

  • June 26, 2026: Marvel Super Heroes (Universes Beyond)
  • August 14, 2026: The Hobbit (Universes Beyond)
  • October 2, 2026: Reality Fracture
  • November 13, 2026: Star Trek (Universes Beyond)

MTG release schedule: When is the Marvel MTG release date?

The next stop on our MTG release schedule is Marvel Super Heroes, which is out June 26, 2026. The set's Gift Bundle, however, will be released on July 17, 2026, adding a hitch in our MTG release schedule.

The Marvel Super Heroes set will feature many of your favorite Marvel heroes and villains, like Captain America, the Fantastic Four, the Sentry, Namor the Sub-Mariner, the Super-Skrull, Doctor Doom, the Incredible Hulk, Moon Girl, Devil Dinosaur, Elektra, Kang the Conqueror, and, of course, Thanos. If you're looking to learn how to play Magic with the Marvel Super Heroes set, look no further than the Marvel Super Heroes Beginner Box, which gives you everything you need to learn and play the game.

Magic has announced the commander decks for the Marvel Super Heroes set: Avengers Assemble (red, white, blue), Wakanda Forever (green and white), The Fantastic Four (red, green, white, blue), and Doom Prevails (white, black, red).

MTG release schedule: When is The Hobbit MTG release date?

Next in our MTG release schedule is The Hobbit MTG set, out August 14, 2026.

The page for The Hobbit set on the MTG website has this description for the set: "Join Bilbo’s adventure of a lifetime with Dwarves to befriend, Trolls to trick, Elves to outwit, and songs to sing. There's gold or dragon’s fire at the end, so enjoy the journey!" The previous Lord of the Rings Magic set was massively successful, so it's only natural that Wizards of the Coast would return once again to Middle-earth for a set based around Bilbo Baggins and the events of The Hobbit.

Magic Con Las Vegas 2026 gave us a glimpse at the upcoming MTG release schedule, showcasing cards from The Hobbit set. The headliner card of the set is a gleaming gold variant of Smaug, the Magnificent, and it's absolutely gorgeous.

There is a dedicated Scene Box for The Hobbit where you'll be able to assemble the entire gang in Bilbo's house, alongside a Bundle and a play booster box

MTG release schedule: When is the Reality Fracture MTG release date?

After The Hobbit, our MTG release schedule continues with Reality Fracture, out October 2, 2026. Reality Fracture is a Universes Within set, meaning it isn't a crossover with another IP like The Hobbit, Marvel Super Heroes, or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

At Magic Con Las Vegas 2026, Wizards of the Coast unveiled some details about the upcoming set. Reality Fracture is Magic: The Gathering's version of a "What If...?" set, meaning that it's built on alternate versions of existing characters. And it's all the doing of planeswalker Jace Beleren.

There will be a Draft Night bundle for Reality Fracture that provides the perfect opportunity for you to get your friends together for a little Friday Night Magic. In addition, there will be a regular Bundle and a Commander deck. So lots of options to choose from!

MTG release schedule: When is the Star Trek MTG release date?

The release date for the Star Trek Magic: The Gathering set is November 13, 2026. We'll know more details about the set in the coming months.

For now, on the Magic: The Gathering website, we can get a glimpse at some eye-popping art for the set. It looks like the Star Trek set will feature a multitude of various eras, which is the main thing I would ask from the set as a huge Trekkie myself. You can get a look at art of Gowron the Klingon from The Next Generation and Deep Space 9 (also known as "the Klingon with the eyes"), alongside Captain Kirk and the rest of the Enterprise crew looking locked in on whatever is onscreen in front of them. We'll see it all unfold in this final stop on our MTG release schedule for 2026.
