This spring, artist Eric Canete made his triumphant return to comics with a two-issue arc in Absolute Batman from DC Comics. Canete, along with series regulars Scott Snyder and Frank Martin, crafted a story that introduced Absolute Poison Ivy. The arc was well-received by fans, which Canete experienced firsthand while tabling in artist alley at C2E2 this year.
At C2E2 2026, I sat down with Eric Canete to talk about his time working on Absolute Batman and what his future looks like in comics. "I have my own creator-owned book, it's called Arc Athena. It's six issues. I wanted to have a take on what I would do if I got the X-Men IP, but not doing the actual X-Men IP. It's available on iconiccomics.com. It's three hundred some odd pages worth of that kind of tribute and love letter," Canete began.
The artist added, "Currently, I'm working on a project that I'm not allowed to talk about yet, but it's super exciting. It's a great follow-up to Absolute Batman, and fingers crossed, if things work out well and I somehow manage to convince Scott it's an okay thing to do, I'll come back and do some more."
Previously, Canete has worked on series like The Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Man: Enter the Mandarin, and Cyborg, in addition to his work in the film and TV industries. We can't wait to see what Eric Canete has in store for all of us.
