Arrow co-creator Marc Guggenheim would write a John Diggle comic for DC "in a heartbeat"
Guggenheim would love to bring his co-creation Diggle, AKA Spartan, into the tapestry of DC Comics. At the same time, he has an idea as to why the character hasn't exactly caught on there yet

When he was first introduced in Arrow's debut season, David Ramsey's John Diggle was very much supporting cast. However, over the decade-plus of the universe the show introduced, Diggle became so much more than an Oliver Queen sidekick. And now, the character's co-creator is ready for him to take the next logical step in his evolution: as the headliner of a DC Comic.
And at the same time, Marc Guggenheim kinda knows why that might not work.
I got the chance to sit down with Guggenheim at C2E2 2026, where the TV legend's love of the character that would later be called The Spartan was evident. So evident, in act, in inspired a message directly to the hallowed halls of DC Editorial.
"Look DC," Guggenheim said at one point in our discussion, "Call me if you want a Spartan comic. I would write that in a heartbeat. That would be a blast."
Qualifying this a bit here, though, Guggenheim also mentioned that he understands why a Spartan comic might not be at the top of DC's wishlist.
"In terms of comics," the Legends of Tomorrow co-creator said, "I always thought oh this could be nice if there was a DC Comics version of Felicity there was a DC Comics version of Diggle and for a time they did do those characters in comics but it hasn't seemed to have taken. And maybe the reason is our take on Oliver was so different from Oliver Queen in the comics that it makes for a difficult. It's flavors that weren't designed to go together. So I can understand why that hasn't happened."
Well Marc, we do have good news on that front. A new, much darker version of Green Arrow is, in fact, out there on the stands right now. And it's doing pretty goddamn well.
Arrow is streaming on Pluto TV (for free!) now.
