What to Watch May 2025: Netflix, Max, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu & more take you to the ATM (Animation, Travel, & Murder)

From Love, Death + Robots to an actual Murderbot, from Conan O'Brian's journeys to a Galaxay Far, Far Away, and from Fear Street to The Chi, May is perfect for a very, very niche set of streamers

Animation, Travel, and Murder. I don't know what about May causes the streaming gods to bring forth those particular offerings to us lowly mortals but, hey, I'm not complaining. Basically every streaming service this coming month touches on at least one of those disparate fields, some actually offer a combination of more than one. Don't believe me? Well check out Popverse's list of what's streaming in May 2025 for proof.

Yes, just like every month, Popverse is bringing you all of the major new and original programming from your favorite streamers. Take a glance at the list below to see what's on schedule, and a huge congratulations to everyone finding themselves in this month's very odd three-circled Venn diagram.

What's streaming on Netflix in May 2025

Two polar opposite ends of the animation spectrum will be represented on Netflix this month - firstly, you've got the hotly-anticipated return of Love, Death + Robots, the experimental animated anthology that pushes the bounds of not just the medium but science fiction itself. Then there's Big Mouth, the classic R-rated adult cartoon that featured as many guest stars as it does deeply uncomfortable puberty jokes.

And for my murder fans out there (we gotta find a better name for you), you'll be thrilled to know that Netflix is returning to the R.L. Stine-inspired horror franchise Fear Street, the horror saga that began with three back-to-back slashers in 2021. Check out the rest of Netflix's offerins (including the full Twilight saga) below.

What's streaming on Amazon Prime Video in May 2025

Prime Video might as well be transporting us to another planet with Octopus!, a two-part documentary that dives deep into the lives and terrain of the titular creatures. Our tour guide for this journey, you'll be thrilled to hear, is none other than Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag and Killing Eve fame.

And for my homicide enthusiasts (not much better, is it?), Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are returning to the suspenseful world of 2018's A Simple Favor with the scandal and savagery-laden sequel, Another Simple Favor, out the first of the month. Check out more of what Prime is offering in the chart right here.

What's streaming on Hulu in May 2025

Coming all the way from South Korea is the killer-thriller Nine Puzzles, debuting exclusively on Hulu May 21. But if the kind of intrigue you're into is less of the criminal and more of the social kind, you could always check out the return of The Secret Lives of Mormon WIves.

And hey, if neither of those quite float your boat, Hulu is debuting two new films next month: Pita Hall and Summer of '69. That second one stars SNL's own Chloe Freeman, so you know it's going to be funny. And with all the murder on this list, you could use a laugh, no?

Summer of '69 May 9 Live-action movie
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, season 2 May 15 Reality series

What's streaming on Max in May 2025

Speaking of laughs (admittedly dark ones), Adult Swim is finally bringing back Rick and Morty for its eighth season this May, which will feature Rick Sanchez and his unlucky grandson up against some Easter Bunny-worshipping (or is it fearing?) spacefarers and other typical, scifi shenanigans. And for shenanigans that are less about aliens, Max is also bringing back travel series Conan O'Brian Must Go.

Well, I guess that's a little bit less about aliens. Just saying, God didn't make regular folk that red-headed and tall.

Title Streaming Date Type
100 Foot Wave May 2 Docuseries
Rick and Morty, season 8 May 9 Animated series
Duster May 15 Live-action series
Conan O'Brien Must Go, season 2 May TBD Reality series

What's streaming on Disney+ in May 2025

And speaking of pushing the boundaries of our imaginations and introducing us to worlds unknown, this May brings to Disney+ one of the most timeless, beloved staples of pop culture in the history of entertainment...

Stanley Tucci!

Yes, Stanley's back and journeying to a place Far, Far Away to reconnect with some traditions established A Long Time Ago in Tucci in Italy, the latest docuseries depicting the Emmy-winner's travels all over the globe.

Oh, and I guess there's some Star Wars stuff coming out? On May the 4th? I don't get it. Here's what else is coming to Disney+, though.

Title Streaming Date Type
Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld May 4 Animated series
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge May 4 Immersive Disney Parks experience
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance May 4 Immersive Disney Parks experience
Tucci in Italy May 19 Docuseries
Minnie's Bow-Toons: Pet Hotel May 20 Animated series

What's coming to Apple TV+ in May 2025

At long last, a live-action adaptation of Martha Wells's very weird scifi series Murderbot is headed to streaming TV, and it's bringing along some certified weirdos to tell the tale. Folks like Alexander Skarsgård, David Dastmalchian, John Cho, and Jack McBrayer are all in line to bring the far-flung future imperfect to modern scifi enjoyers, and as a massive fan of the book series myself, I couldn't be more excited.

Title Streaming Date Type
Long Way Home, season 2 May 9 Docuseries
Murderbot May 16 Live-action series

What's coming to Peacock in May 2025

Oh, wait, I actually can be more excited, because the modern-day equivalent of Columbo is just a couple weeks away from returning to TV as I'm writing this. I'm talking, of course, about Poker Face, the Natasha Lyonne-starring weekly murder mystery series from Mr. Knives OUt himself, Rian Johnson. And just like last season, it's promising to be just as packed to the gills with intrigue and celeb cameos, such as the one you see above.

Oh yeah, that is a certain Wicked Witch in the image here, portraying what appears to be three separate characters. As if she couldn't get any more...

Popular.

Title Streaming Date Type
Poker Face, season 2 May 8 Live-action series

What's coming to Paramount+ in May 2025

And last but absolutely not least is Paramount+, which is bringing back maybe the most exciting treat for all you manslaughter mavens (there's just no way to make this work, huh?). That is, the third season of Criminal Minds: Evolution, the series that continues TV's most popular criminal profiling saga, a story that began all the way back in 2005 and is still going strong.

Not going quite as strong, presumably, are the couples in the fourth season of Couples Therapy, also returning this May on Paramount+, but hey, that kind of struggle has nothing to do with murder.

Not yet, anyway.

Title Streaming Date Type
Criminal Minds: Evolution, season 3 May 8 Live-action series
SkyMed, season 3 May 15 Live-action series
The Chi, season 7 May 16 Live-action series
Couples Therapy, season 4B May 23 Reality series (requires Showtime)

That's all the major streaming movies and TV shows on our radar right now, but we'll be updating this list as more information becomes available. For those updates, and for all you need to know about the future of streaming, keep an eye on Popverse.
