That time Charlie Cox and Tom Hiddleston switched their MCU Daredevil & Loki roles, with Marvel Studios' full support

Charlie Cox shares the story behind his iconic Halloween switch-up with Tom Hiddleston

Why is Loki wearing a Daredevil suit, and why is Daredevil dressed as Loki? Is this a TVA thing? Are we peeking into the multiverse.

Actually, it’s a Halloween thing. Back in 2019 Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Cox were starring in the New York play Betrayal. After a Halloween performance, the two actors met fans at the stage door. To everyone’s surprise, the actors were dressed as their Marvel characters – only they had switched roles. Charlie Cox was dressed as Loki, while Tom Hiddleston was dressed as Daredevil. Their costars Zawe Ashton and Eddie Arnold joined in on the fun, dressing as Captain Marvel and Captain America.

According to Charlie Cox, not only did Marvel approve this Halloween surprise, but they also supplied the costumes. Speaking to a crowd at Awesome Con 2024, Cox recalled the cosplay switcheroo.

“When we did that Halloween thing, Daredevil was done for me as far as I’m concerned,” Cox said. “The show was over. I knew Tom was doing Loki again, but as far as I was aware, Daredevil was over. I was a little nervous, because I didn’t want it to seem like I was encouraging Marvel to pick us up. So, we called them, we called Marvel and said, ‘Could we do this.’ And they sent us the costumes, the Halloween costumes. And then Zawe decided to do it, and Eddie did it as well. But what’s cool about it is, it’s me, Tom, and Zawe in these Marvel costumes, and now I am doing Daredevil. And Zoey was in Ms. Marvel. It’s so cool.”

Cox is referring to Zawe Ashton’s recent appearance as Dar-Benn in The Marvels, which he confused with the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. This means that ¾ of the actors have gone on to appear in a Marvel Studios production. This bodes well for Eddie Arnold. Maybe he’ll be the next Avenger.
