Popverse's top stories of the day
- My New Years Resolution is to watch less anime in 2025 - but to enjoy it more
- Sam Wilson has always been the perfect successor as the MCU's Captain America and Brave New World will show that
- Is Severance enough to make AppleTV+ a real player in streaming?
So you’ve watched the entirety of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, and now you’re chasing the vibes of another good mystery, thriller series. The BBC adaptation starring Emma Myers, of Holly Jackson's YA novel is now on Netflix - but with only six episodes, we only get so much of our crime solving duo Pip and Ravi. Luckily for us, Popverse's Veronica Valencia has some recommendations for your next binge watch to crave that 'thrill.' You can see all six in the video above, but here are three for you to read about for now.
One of Us is Lying
Our first entry is another book to TV adaption series One of Us is Lying. Based on the book by Karen M. McManus, One of Us is Lying reads as if you mixed The Breakfast Club with Gossip Girl, and carries similar mystery murder and thrilling elements as A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. One of Us is Lying starts with detention, and follows five students, Simon, Addy, Cooper, Bronwyn, and Nate. Simon is our gossip girl, our holder of all secrets, but when Simon ends up dead, it’s suspected his death was not an accident, and our remaining cast of characters are the suspects who must work together to find the real killer and clear their names.
Available on Peacock.
School Spirits
What if you woke up in school one day and realized no one can see you and no one can hear you - and in fact, the only people that can see and hear you aren’t people, but ghosts? School Spirits is a series about a girl named Maddie who finds herself stuck in the afterlife as she investigates her own disappearance. The more Maddie digs around, the more secrets she uncovers as she gets closer to finding out the truth about what happened to her.
School Spirits satisfies that mystery you’re craving while also providing the story with a supernatural element. Between the ghosts and the living students, there are many storylines to explore, while also getting to the bottom of Maddie’s case.
Available on Paramount+.
Twisted
If you enjoyed the mysterious character who appears to be a wrongfully accused suspect of a crime aspect in A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, then you definitely need to check out Twisted. Twisted is a teen-drama mystery thriller series focusing on Danny Desai, who was charged with the murder of his aunt. After spending time in juvenile hall, he returns to his hometown to try and repair his relationships, but becomes the main suspect in another murder. Danny already has a bad reputation, and he realizes the town doesn’t care about what actually happened, which sets Danny on a path to clear his name. Unfortunately, this series only got one season which is a bummer because it was so good and was going in a really interesting direction.
Available on Hulu.
