Between new seasons of Dan Da Dan, Spy x Family, and My Hero Academia, I can't tell what my most anticipated anime of 2025 will be

One Punch Man, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and My Dress-Up Darling are all coming back in 2025, plus all the new shows that are going to catch my eye.

The year is almost over and it has all of us here at Popverse looking toward 2025. For me, that means trying to figure out how I’m going to watch all the anime coming at me in the next 12 months. Most of these don’t have firm release dates, but they’ve all been confirmed as airing in 2025. Some we know will be coming to Crunchyroll or Netflix, but others we have to wait and see who (if anyone) is streaming them.

My Dress-Up Darling Season 2

Despite my misgivings about the content that is likely to get adapted in My Dress-Up Darling season two, I can’t help getting excited to see Marin and Gojo on my screens again. These two are adorable enough to melt even my jaded, cynical heart. My Dress-Up Darling has been a long time coming – the second season was announced in September 2022 – with very little update until recently, so fans have waited a long time just to find out it is coming in 2025.

Speaking of waiting a long time, we finally got the announcement that fans have been waiting over a decade for: season two of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is coming in 2025. After the fallout from Gainax’s collapse and the rights issues that spawned from it, it took over 10 years before we got a 2025 release window for Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt season two. The series is a great example of how good anime can be when it isn’t afraid to be weird and a second season has been on fans’ wishlist for a long time.

One Punch Man Season 3

I know that season two of One Punch Man was underwhelming and had some animation issues, but, as someone who is caught up with the manga, I’m here to tell you that season three should be one of the most mind-blowing things you’ve seen before. The fight against the Monster Association, which is likely to take up all of season three’s episode count, features some of the most bonkers moments I’ve read, including a fart so powerful it ripped launches a character from Saturn back to Earth. There are some fascinating characters and fights so epic they could fill an entire season of anime – and that is before Saitama even shows up.

My Hero Academia Season 8

Admittedly, I have fallen out of love with My Hero Academia over the years. The anime’s need to put out a new season every year in addition to the occasional movie meant that quality dipped at times. Add in the fact that I already know how the story ends and I shouldn’t be as excited for the anime’s final season as I am. But sometimes it is more about seeing the ending for myself, seeing it play out before my eyes, than anything else. My Hero Academia used to be one of my favorite anime so I know that I’ll watch it to the end. I owe All Might that much.

The original Gnosia video game/visual novel made expert use of the gaming format to do something unique. I can’t imagine how they are going to make that work in an anime… and yet, here I am including it in my most anticipated anime of 2025. Do I think it will work? Certainly not in the same way that the video game did, but I’m excited to see them try. Because sometimes I want to see an ambitious failure rather than a predictable success.

Spy x Family Season 3

The adorably imperfect Forgers are back in 2025 for the third season of Spy x Family. Fans who are caught up in the manga know that season three is going to drop some big hints about Twilight’s backstory and start taking the anime into some darker territory, with more exploration of the horrors of war coming in the eventual season four. After how much I loved Spy x Family: Code White, I’ve been eager to see more of Loid, Anya, and Yor on my screen. The October 2025 release date for Spy x Family season three can’t come soon enough.

Dan Da Dan Season 2

I did not expect to be as in love with Dan Da Dan as I have been. The first season was so wonderfully weird and yet undeniably sweet that it became one of my favorite anime of the year. While I wasn’t a fan of the huge cliffhanger ending in the final episode of season one, it doesn’t change the fact that I can’t wait to see more in season two when it airs in July 2025. The manga has suddenly become my evening reading of choice to fill the Okarun and Momo-shaped hole in my heart.
