Disney's live action Little Mermaid shimmers in first teaser trailer

From the looks of it, the live-action Little Mermaid could brake the curse of bad animation-to-live-action films for Disney

The first piece of footage from the highly-anticipated Disney live-action adaptation of animated classic The Little Mermaid has been revealed. Released in conjunction with a D23 Expo panel with some of the cast, The Little Mermaid teaser trailer is a sight to behold and worth watching - even for those of us who haven't enjoyed many of the recent animation-to-live-action Disney films:

Directed by Rob Marshall, The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, and is joined by Daveed Diggs (Sebastian), Jacob Tremblay (Flounder), Aqkwafina (Scuttle), Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric), Art Malik (Sir Grimsby), Noma Dumezweni (Queen Selina), Javier Bardem (King Triton), and Melissa McCarthy (Ursula).

The Little Mermaid's script was written by Dave Magee, and will be using songs from the original film as well as a few new numbers.

Disney's The Little Mermaid opens in theaters May 26, 2023.
