Batman, Netflix's Wednesday, NYCC pre-sales, the Witcher prequel, and more: This September at Popverse
Join us here in September as we are your tour guide and pop culture BFF, telling you what's good, what's bad, and why things are so great in the worlds of comics, movies, tv, games, and fiction lit.

The world is a complicated place, but what you like and love doesn't have to be.
My name is Chris Arrant, and I'm the Editor-in-Chief here at Popverse - and have been covering the worlds of comics, movies, TV, gaming, and fiction lit for long enough to know that there are a lot of choices for where you can go. But for me, I always gravitate towards the people and personalities that excite me, that surprise me, and people who at the end of every day I can trust. That's why we're going to begin writing a personal letter to you, each month telling you what's going on here, what we're working on for the months ahead, and why things are happening here.

In September 2025, Popverse will be covering all the big new releases - including the historic relaunch of DC Comics' Batman comic by Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez. It's one of my favorite comics writers, one of my favorite comics artists, and the most iconic superhero the world has ever had (Sorry, Superman!). Much like he did with Marvel's Hawkeye, Fraction is making Batman his own through a costume upgrade, a return to street-level basics, and being unafraid to lean into the superheroics of being a superhero. Popverse's Jules Chin Greene caught up with him recently in San Diego, and told us all about it in a members-first interview now available for everyone.
Here are some of the other big release events of September we'll be covering:
- The finale of Wednesday season 2 on Netflix
- The new Witcher prequel novel Crossroads of Ravens (Jules has already read it, even though its not out for a month yet!)
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle
- Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale
- ... And we didn't forget Borderlands 4!
As part of that and more, we are attending several conventions in late August and September, including PAX West, Dragon Con, Rose City Comic Con, and L.A. Comic Con.

Speaking of cons, we'll also be debuting reunions from Star Trek: Voyager and Doctor Who in hour-long conversations with cast members filmed recently at Florida Supercon in Miami Beach - with Popverse members getting to see 'em first.
We'll also be looking ahead to the future this month in Popverse's Future Fest. This, Popverse's first digital event, is something I've been planning for over a year now, and something the team has been cooking on since February of this year during our annual summit. Future Fest is a week-long look ahead to the proverbial tomorrow, today - across comics, movies, TV, gaming, and fiction - beginning Monday, September 15 and going through Sunday, September 21.

After that, our next big event is the big event of the year: October 2025's New York Comic Con. This will be Popverse's fourth NYCC, and will have the biggest footprint a pop culture journalism outlet has ever had at any major convention: we will have a whole day of programming on Sunday, two backstage areas talking to celebrities and getting up to our own personal hijinx all week, as well as roving the showfloor and more finding (and filming) everything you're missing. Ahead of that, in September, we will be revealing several new guests coming to the show - and giving out Popverse NYCC Superfans exclusive pre-sales on all of them. That's not all - we'll also be announcing more exhibitors, panels, and features coming to the event.
If that wasn't enough, we will have new installments of our Popverse feature columns. Our senior contributing writer, Trent Cannon, has been on a tear recently between his Gamify My Life and Popverse Jump columns, and it's by finding out what he's most excited about and then finding out so are you.
Here are some of the Popverse features you can look forward to in September 2025:
- Trent Cannon talking about a Chrono Trigger remake (or lack thereof), the upcoming Halloween game, and more in Gamify My Life
- Grant DeArmitt revisits Black Phone, Aliens, and the 2020 Invisible Man remake in The Coldest Open
- In our new series, What to Watch After, Avery Kaplan will be dishing up what to watch after Wednesday, Demon Slayer, Outlander, and Downton Abbey.
- And a review of the new Demon Slayer movie, why Dan Da Dan's weekly manga release schedule is a bad thing, and the parental themes of My Hero Academia in Popverse Jump by Trent Cannon
- And my own Marvel Matters, where I'll be digging into how the Spider-Verse movies changed Spider-Man in comics and beyond, as well as a deep-dive into who the Marvel Studios' Parliament.
