Overlord movie release date: When we think Crunchyroll is taking us to The Sacred Kingdom
A good isekai adventure never truly ends.

Some fans might think we have enough isekai anime available already, but Crunchyroll says you can never have too much of a good thing. As the Spring 2024 anime season brings us shows like The New Gate and Konosuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World, it also brings us a new film from the Overlord anime. We know that Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom is coming to theaters across the US, but when?
Unfortunately, we don’t know when Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom will come to cinemas in the US. Crunchyroll announced in April 2024 that the film was one of three they had gotten the rights to localize. The other two, Blue Lock: Episode Nagi and Haikyuu! The Decisive Battle in the Garbage Dump, both got firm release dates, but no such luck with Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom. What gives?
Still, it is exciting to know that the movie is on its way at all. Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom takes place directly after season four of the anime. It is based on volumes 12 and 13 of the light novel, which puts the events in this movie firmly in canon.
While we don’t know when Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom will come out in the US, we don’t expect it until at least Fall 2024 when it arrives in Japanese cinemas. A late 2024 or early 2025 release date seems the most likely at this point, but we won’t know until we get more details from Crunchyroll. Until then, we’ll have to show a little patience.
