What to Watch July 2025: Summer's bringing SciFi and Sharks to Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Crunchyroll, and more

Star Trek, Shark Fest, and a whole lotta anime - get ready for a blockbuster summer from the comfort of your very own couch

Have you noticed that a great deal of summer entertainment has a science fiction bent? I blame Steven Spielberg for releasing ET as soon as kids were out of school and forever making it the season we search among the stars. While we're on the subject of Spielberg movies, too, I have to imagine it's his fault that a smaller, but no less important sect of summer hits have something to do with the greatest predator on our very own planet - the shark.

Now, maybe it's just me, but I get the idea your favorite streaming platforms were thinking along the same lines when they scheduled their releases for July of 2025. Because as you'll see in Popverse's What to Watch July, there are more than a few offerings in the 'futuristic' or 'finned' categories in streaming entertainment.

Let's start with Netflix.

What's streaming on Netflix in July 2025

The Sandman season 2 The Endless

OK, so maybe Netflix is a bad example to start off with because July's genre fare for the streamer is more of a sci-fi/fantasy blend than anything. Case in point - Dan Da Dan, which returns for season 2, is about both aliens and ghosts, so to call it pure sci-fi would be incorrect. And perhaps the most anticipated event for this month, that is, the return of The Sandman, is something of a genre bender. But hey, there's always The Old Guard sequel, which features undying characters that are a result of mutation and not magic.

So that counts.

What's streaming on Amazon Prime Video in July 2025

The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3

Ah, so apparently The Summer I Turned Pretty is not, in fact, a spinoff of The Substance, which means the Prime Video show I thought would be science fiction is actually something else. But hey, there is a movie on its way that's about John Cena as president... so can the science of science fiction be political science? We're gonna say yes and move on.

What's streaming on Hulu in July 2025

Washington Black by Esi Edugyan

The novel on which upcoming series Washington Black is based isn't science fiction the way we think of it today, but more along the lines of what Jules Verne was writing in the 1800s. The story, which follows a boy born into slavery who escapes and grows up via a host of fantastic adventures, features a lot of time in a fantastic hot air flying machine, and we have to wonder if author Esi Edugyan was a fan of Around the World in 80 Days before writing it.

What's coming to Apple TV+ in July 2025

Foundation season 3

The adaptation of Isaac Asmiov's seminal science fiction work, Foundation, is returning for season 3 on Apple this July, and even if it didn't star light-of-our-lives Lee Pace, we'd be excited. Oh! Nature docuseries The Wild Ones is debuting this month as well, and while we don't have confirmation there will be sharks in any of the episodes, we know there's at least one deep-sea expedition. Fingers crossed!

Well, not the divers' fingers, I guess.

Acapulco, season 4 July 23 Live-action series

What's coming to Peacock in July 2025

Twisted Metal season 2 Sweet Tooth

We know that Anthony Mackie is going to be busy saving the world from Victor Von Doom shortly, but first, he's got to drive for his own life. That'll be the case when Twisted Metal, based on the racing/fighting game series of the same name, returns to Peacock for a second season. No, Mackie won't be going toe-to-toe with a Red Hulk in this show, but he will be squaring up against a clown that lights himself on fire.

Which is worse, right? That's definitely worse.

Love Island: Beyond the Villa, season 1 July 13 Reality series

What's coming to Paramount+ in July 2025

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3

There's only one entry on the list of What to Watch this July on Paramount+, but it might as well be worth its own section anyway. That's because after a seemingly endless wait, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is finally returning to your screens, bringing Pike, Spock, Uhura, and the rest of the gang back with them. Oh, and on the subject of Uhura - you can always watch Popverse's conversation with Celia Rose Gooding while you wait for this next season.

Title Streaming Date Type
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, season 3 July 17 Live-action series

What's coming to Crunchyroll in July 2025

Kaiju No. 8 season 2

I'm sure I don't even have to tell you to watch Crunchyroll for some absolutely incredible science fiction, but since there are some particular titles I think deserve a highlight, we'll run through them very quickly. First up is the return of monster-fightin' Kaiju No. 8, the debut of feline outbreak saga Nyaight of the Living Cat, and last but in no way least, the final batch of Dr. Stone episodes.

What I can't tell you, unfortunately, is what to do with your life once that ends.

Title Streaming Date Type
Onmyo Kaiten Re:Birth Verse, season 1 July 2 Animated series
My Dress-Up Darling, season 2 July 5 Animated series
Nyaight of the Living Cat, season 1 July 6 Animated series
