I went to a Superman movie screening for dogs - and I have the pictures to prove it

I met some of Los Angeles's cutest dogs at an outdoor screening of the first DC Studios release, Superman, sponsored by Milk-Bone

It's official, the new Superman movie is for dog lovers. And animal lovers in general - like Superman himself, we shouldn't be picky. (Well, maybe not mosquitos, but you can catch my drift.) James Gunn's new film is the first time that Krypto the Superdog, the El family's beloved white dog, has been part of a live-action Superman movie. Considering that Krypto has been around since 1955, making him only one year younger than Godzilla and my dad, it really was about time that movie theaters around the world welcome Krypton's Bestest Boy.

To celebrate the occasion, I went to a screening of Superman at the Rooftop Cinema Club in Downtown Los Angeles on July 10, where attendees were encouraged to bring their dogs. Having no dog of my own - the Fortress of Solitude that I call home is more like The Bunker of Solitude - too small for me and a doggo to comfortably coexist in - I brought my friend and her adorable husky rescue, Myra. Having spent hours watching movies and TV shows with Myra over the years, I knew she would be the perfect canine companion to bring along to see Superman. Enjoy the gallery below of photos I took before the screening started.

It was funny once the movie began, because we were all watching the film with headsets on. After all, the Rooftop Cinema Club doesn't blast audio from the movie over speakers, because that would create some serious noise pollution. So while our dogs couldn't hear Krypto or the rest of the film's audio, they still had a blast making friends with each other and lounging in the beds that sponsors Milk-Bone and the event organizers provided.

All in all, the screening was a blast. James Gunn's film is wonderful, of course, and seeing it in the company of 40 dogs and over 100 people made it even better.

Superman is out in theaters now.
