John Brick: Keanu Reeves might be making a new LEGO movie

Reeves is said to be circling the film, which will combine CGI and live-action

Keanu Reeves has already proven that he can play a toy. Remember, he leant his smooth, always-welcome voice to the character of Duke Caboom in Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 4. And I'd even argue that, as Shadow the Hedgehog, Reeves kind of tapped into someone that's been toyified more than the average film character. Now, though, Reeves is rumored to be taking the natural next step into the toy-to-film pipeline, with rumors circulating online that he's up for a big role in the next LEGO film.

Here's the thing, though - we don't actually know if the role he'd be playing is a toy or not.

The news comes from Variety in an article dated June 22. The outlet had revealed that Reeves is "circling" a role in the next LEGO movie which, interestingly enough, would see him reuniting with Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley. But before you get excited about Reeves in another animated project, check this out: the film is said to be a "a live-action/ CG hybrid."

I know, I know, I'm not sure exactly what that means either. Most every LEGO movie has existed as an animation first project, with the possible exception being the live-action bits Will Ferrel filmed for the first LEGO Movie. Is Reeves hovering around a role that will similarly exist in two worlds, one within the confined of a LEGO reality and one that's set in our own universe?

At the moment, we just don't have the answers. But as big fans of both LEGO and most anything Reeves does (Constantine fans, rise up), you can bet that once more news is available, Popverse will have it.

Keanu Reeves is probably not starring in the Galaxy Far, Far Away corner of the LEGO world. But just in case, the Popverse LEGO Star Wars watch order is here for you.

Grant DeArmitt

Grant DeArmitt: Grant DeArmitt (he/him) likes horror, comics, and the unholy union of the two. In the past, and despite their better judgment, he has written for Nightmare on Film Street and Newsarama. He lives in Brooklyn with his partner, Kingsley, and corgi, Legs.
