Major spoilers ahead for Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
The day has finally come: The Fantastic Four: First Steps is here. Matt Shakman's film introduces the team into the MCU, ahead of next year's Avengers: Doomsday, where Robert Downey Jr. will return to play the team's archnemesis. With this being the fourth iteration of the FF on the big screen (but first created by Marvel themselves), there's a lot riding on the shoulders of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn - but it appears they have the shoulders (rocky, in some cases) to do it.
We are fresh out of the first public screening of Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps, breaking down the ending, the post-credits scene, and all the major surprises throughout the movie.
Without much further ado, let's unpack what the heck happened in First Steps.
What happens at the end of Fantastic 4?

In the climax of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the team organizes the world to build a trap to ensnare the planet-eating Galactus before he goes full-buffet on us all. It all goes down in Times Square, as they lure him into the trap - a wormhole. Reed Richards and the team fail to do it, however, all is saved when, at the last minute, his herald, the Silver Surfe,r comes in during the clutch and pushes her master back through.
Earth-828 is saved!
Were there any Fantastic Four deaths?

Sue Storm dies after pushing Galactus through a wormhole, but luckily for her, she's brought back to life by baby Franklin Richards, who uses his powers from the Power Cosmic to revive his mother. Kid's earning his keep!
What and who are the big surprises of The Fantastic Four: First Steps?

Again, Franklin Richards has abilities drawing from the Power Cosmic, one of the limitless sources of energy in the universe. And, Silver Surfer defies her duties as Galactus's herald in order to save Earth-828, which was nice of her.
What are The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credits scenes?

In the first post-credits scene (directed by Avengers: Doomsday duo of Anthony and Joe Russo), which takes place four years after the events of the main movie plot, Sue and Franklin are reading together in the Baxter Building. Sue gets up to go to the kitchen when she senses a presence in the living room. She comes back to the living room to see a hooded figure kneeling down and talking to Franklin. We know that this figure is Doctor Doom, because they are holding a Doom-shaped mask in their hand as they talk to the kiddo. Unfortunately, we can't hear what Doom is saying to Franklin, nor can we see Doom's face.
The second post-credits scene is the opening of the in-universe animated Fantastic Four show.
Will there be a The Fantastic Four: First Steps sequel?

After the post-credits scene with Franklin and Doctor Doom, we see a title card that says "The Fantastic Four will return in Avengers: Doomsday." So no word yet on a sequel for First Steps, but we do know that we'll next see the Fan Fam in Doomsday next year.
How does The Fantastic Four: First Steps affect the larger MCU?

Reed Richards was working on a "bridge" that teleports objects through space, something that I would imagine would have consequences elsewhere in the MCU. Also, young Franklin Richards is now the most powerful character in the MCU, and he's only four years old! Absolutely nothing could go wrong with that, right?
