If you've been paying attention to Marvel Comics these past few months, you may have noticed that a certain Chip Zdarsky has been shaping the near future of the publisher. You don't need to look much further than the incoming Avengers: Armageddon event set to kick off this summer as evidence of Chipsanity. The Marvel Universe is Chip Zdarsky's oyster, and Captain America is only just the beginning

In an interview with SKTCHD, Zdarsky extrapolated on this new position he's in at Marvel.

"I don’t want to call myself a Marvel architect, but it definitely feels like in the next year or two, I’m one of the guys that’s going to help figure out the way forward for a lot of the line. Obviously, [Jonathan] Hickman’s kind of top dog when it comes to that kind of thing. But knowing that, I’m just like, 'Okay, I need to focus. I need to make sure that like I’m giving this the attention it needs,'" Zdarsky said.

Zdarsky's Substack newsletter is a delightful look into how the writer behind Captain America and Armageddon keeps everything together. One thing that does come across Zdarsky's work is that it takes an immense amount of focus to have so many pots on the stove at once, all at various stages of cooking. And ultimately, when you dig into a Zdarsky book, you know you're in for a thoughtful story.

But what does a Chip Zdarsky story look like when the stakes are raised? We'll just have to wait and see.

Avengers: Armageddon #1 will be out on June 3, 2026.
