Chris Evans and some other A-listers are joinging a "B-Movie," though that term might not exactly carry its usual meaning.
The news comes from Deadline, who announced last week that Evans would join rising star Margaret Qualley and silver screen staple Aubrey Plaza in the latest solo project from Ethan Coen, titled Honey Don't!. So just how could you make a "B-Movie" with those names? Well according to director Coen, it's on purpose.
Honey Don't is part of a self-proclaimed B-movie lesbian trilogy from director Coen and writer Tricia Cooke, Coen's partner and the editor behind films like The Big Lebowski. In an interview with Collider, Cooke said that:
"Over the past 20 years, we've been writing this lesbian B movie trilogy. Not really a trilogy, but the idea was to write three queer B movies that I always thought would just kind of sit in the drawer and our kids would look at one day when they were old and get some laughs."
So just what makes Honey Don't a "B-Movie?" Well, we're not sure yet - details from the film, like who Chris Evans is playiing, are still under wraps. However, we do have plenty of details on the first entry into the trilogy, the upcoming Drive Away Dolls, also starring Margaret Qualley.
That film, according to Coen, is "filthy fun," with Cooke calling it "a queer kind of caper that doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's very lighthearted and fun and kind of outrageous at times, perverse, sexual, all of those things."
Fun, outrageous, and perverse? Sounds like it could be fun for Chris Evans, someone used to playing a supehero, to experiment with. And even more fun for his fans to watch.
As of this writing, there's no release date for Honey Don't. In the meantime, however, Drive Away Dolls is in theaters February 23, 2024.
Chris Evans is one of cinema's leading actors, and if you've made it this far you're a fan as well. So with that in mind, here's his thoughts on returning to the MCU, a ranking of his top roles (and how you can vote!), why Winter Soldier is his favorite Marvel movie, his ambitions to be in a fantasy movie, and how to watch all of his Captain America run.
