Come on Barbie, let's go party - here is the Barbie movie's release date

The release date for Greta Gerwig's Barbie around the world.

At long last, the Greta Gerwig-directed, Margot Robbie-starring, Ryan Gosling-flaunting Barbie movie is on its way to theaters. Ever since the first trailer made the best use of a pair of heels since Cinderella, cinephiles have been clamoring to get tickets for the opening night. But when, exactly, is that?

Folks lucky enough to attend Barbie's world premiere at The Shrine theater in Los Angeles caught the Kentastic comedy on Friday, July 9, with all the stars in attendance. The rest of the world, however, will have to wait until July 21.

When is the Barbie release date in theaters?

And we really do mean "the rest of the world." Warner Bros. has confirmed that July 21 is Barbie's release date all around the globe. The US, UK, Spain, Ireland, Italy and everywhere else will all be celebrating the release of Barbie as one big, happy planet.

Well, for the most part.

There's one notable place that will not be getting Barbied on July 21, but that's not because of a different release date. In Vietnam, it's because the Barbie movie isn't coming out at all; it's been banned due to a visual depiction of the South China Sea, which you can read more about in that link.

When will Barbie be available streaming or on home video?

Geopolitical controversies aside, some folks may choose not to see Barbie July 21, or for that matter, to not see it in theaters at all. If that's you, you'll have to wait until the movie comes to streaming platform Max to watch it at home. Unfortunately, we don't have an official date for that... but there's no harm in guessing, right?

Keep in mind that this is pure speculation, but we're basing that speculation on some things we do know for sure. According to Collider, Barbie will be available to stream after its theatrical window has closed, similar to another Warner Bros. 2023 offering: Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

The underperforming sequel to the Zachary Levi-starring superhero comedy hit theaters March 17, 2023, then hit Max on May 23. If our pink plastic picture fits into a similar timeframe, we speculate that Barbie will be streaming on Max some time around late September 2023. Again, we are just guessing here, so if that turns out to be off the mark, don't get mad.

We're doing the best we Ken.

Barbie's release date makes it part of one of cinema's most unlikely double-bills along with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer. Which one are you going to see first?

Grant DeArmitt

Grant DeArmitt: Grant DeArmitt (he/him) likes horror, comics, and the unholy union of the two. As Popverse's Staff Writer, he criss-crosses the pop culture landscape bringing you the news and opinions about the big things (and the next big things). In the past, and despite their better judgment, he has written for Nightmare on Film Street and Newsarama. He lives in Brooklyn with his partner, Kingsley, and corgi, Legs.
