The Portland anime convention WasabiCon is a staple of the community, having established an annual presence in the PDX since its debut in 2012. Part of a chain of WasabiCons that include events in Florida and New Orleans, WasabiCon PDX announced in 2024 that it was planning on growing from two days to three days. Now, that has changed.

WasabiCon PDX will now go back to its earlier two-day footprint, taking place July 27 and 28 out of Hilton Portland Downtown hotel. According to a statement from the organizers, due to their "available resources" they have decided to scale back the length of the event in order to grow the size of the convention space - by 26,000 square feet, exactly.

"We apologize for any confusion, and look forward to seeing you this summer," reads the organizer's statement.

Another thing to keep in mind though is that WasabiCon PDX was scheduled to take place on the same weekend as Comic-Con International: San Diego. While that is a hefty 1000 miles apart so wouldn't tremendously affect fan traffic from the local area, one can imagine how major celebrities and vendors might be faced to make a difficult decision in choosing between WasabiCon PDX and SDCC.

The 2023 WasabiCon PDX was attended by 5,576 people according to organizers.

For those who bought a 3-day pass to WasabiCon PDX 2024, it will now function as a 2-day pass - however the company says it will offer refunds for people who wish to recieve them.
