After You season 5, Netflix star Penn Badgley wants to work with Jordan Peele and/or be on Severance
After You's final season airs on Netflix, Badgley doesn't want to play another dark, messed-up character. But he's not shying away from folks who tell dark, messed-up stories

"I've been with (Joe Goldberg) my entire 30s," says Penn Badgley, star of Netflix's stalker thriller You, "I was 30 years old when I signed on to do this. I'm going to be 39 later this year."
That's a lot of time to spend with a TV show, even one as beloved as You. But the experience is drawing to a close now, as Netflix is about to release the fifth and final season of the hit thriller, and Badgley's naturally thinking about his future. And though Badgley is "glad we're putting [Joe] to bed," the actor is nowhere near done with darker media. In fact, he cites two famously pulse-pounding entertainment arenas as the places he'd like to go nest:
Those are; the works of director Jordan Peele, and Apple TV+'s Severance.
Badgley's dream (nightmare) roles came out of a conversation he had with USAToday, in an article published April 22. During the discussion, the actor revealed that, after working in a TV space so long, he'd like to head back to movies. TV is a "writer's medium," says Badgley, and he'd "[wants] to work with directors again, in that way that an actor uniquely needs. That's what crystallized for me when I started directing, and then also in the last season of the show."
In particular, the director that Badgley's interested in is the aforementioned Peele.
"Of course what he did with Get Out was so ingenious," says Badgley. "He did something that had not been done before." USAToday further reports that Badgley has the same kinds of things to say about Nope.
However, all the love for Peele can't keep Badgley from wanting to be a part of at least one TV project that's currently on the air. Badgley would love to work with director Ben Stiller on everyone's favorite corporate creepshow, Severance, which Badgley credits as helping get more original content made in a world full of sequels and reboots.
"I'm not saying that I don't have nostalgia," Badgley clarifies, "But to me, like the 'Gossip Girl' reboot for instance – I'm like, 'The thing just ended! Didn't it just end?' I know everybody still calls me Dan Humphrey, so it's not gone!"
Well, Penn, we get not wanting to be attached to a character for too long, and a team-up with Jordan Peele or a stint in Severance would certainly help with that. But people sure do love their serial killers these days and, to be honest, you were one of the sexiest.
You season 5 streams April 24 on Netflix.
