Just as Hugh Jackman finally donned a version of the classic Wolverine costume after 24 years of avoiding it, the costumes created in comics to avoid those back at the same time are coming to life in X-Men '97.
During the Marvel Animation panel this weekend at D23 Expo, an opening sizzle reel showed both Cyclops and Jean Grey in a version of their costumes from the 2001 New X-Men revamp by artist Frank Quitely and writer Grant Morrison. The costumes generally went for an all- black leather look, with a bold yellow 'X' emblazoned on their chests (for the most part).
To date, the footage hasn't been released online.
The clip is assumedly from the in-production season season of X-Men '97. Marvel Animation is working on a second and third season of the show simultaneously, after the warm reception it had in early 2024 upon its debut.
