Marvel teases an X-Men staple (and perhaps their first true mutant character) in new Wonder Man promos ahead of Avengers: Doomsday this year

The "Doorman waiver" mentioned in the Wonder Man promos could be the start of Marvel's first mutant in the MCU.

A big change is coming to the MCU later this year as the X-Men (finally) join Marvel’s cinematic lineup. However, Marvel Studios may be teasing one of the most important elements of the X-Men series during the marketing for the Disney+ series, Wonder Man, which is making us think that this show is where we’ll finally see some of the anti-superhero sentiment creep into the MCU.

During two posts on social media, Marvel Studios hinted that Wonder Man is going to explore an MCU that has turned against superheroes. “Hollywood Bans All Super Powers” is the headline that is shown in an image posted on January 2, 2026. Another image posted the same day states that “Actors auditioning for the role of Wonder Man must sign a Doorman waiver.”

Both posts seem to imply that the public has turned against superheroes in the MCU – at least enough that they are restricting them from certain jobs. This is a theme that pops up occasionally in Marvel Comics, such as the Civil War storyline, but it is most explicit when dealing with the X-Men. Anti-Mutant rhetoric is far more common than Anti-Superhero, which is why these posts feel like they’re setting up more than they seem. Is Wonder Man the start of the story arc that will bring the X-Men more into focus?

The “Doorman waiver” mentioned in one of the posts also seems to be setting up X-Men in a roundabout way, as Doorman is an established mutant in Marvel Comics, even though he is never associated with the mainstream version of that team. Of course, the MCU has included mutant characters in the past; both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are mutants in the comics that had their backstories changed when they were introduced to the MCU. That was before Disney purchased Fox to gain the rights to the X-Men, however.

It all gets complicated (as most things do with corporate mergers), but it does seem that Wonder Man could be paving the way for the X-Men to join the MCU in a more organic way than we thought.

Wonder Man is out on Disney+ on January 27, 2026.
