Netflix is still working on a Wednesday spin-off starring Uncle Fester, according to Fred Armisen

As Wednesday season 2 lands on the streamer and season 3 goes ahead, it seems Netflix isn't done with the world of Wednesday

With the incredible success of Wednesday season one, Netflix was quick to confirm not only that they were bringing Jenna Ortega and the rest of the cast back for season two but would be expanding their version of the Addams Family with an Uncle Fester spin-off series. Since then, we’ve gotten Wednesday season two but haven’t heard much about the beloved (and very weird) Uncle Fester show. However, Fred Armisen has confirmed that the much-rumored series is still in development at Netflix.

That confirmation didn’t come with many details, we’re afraid. When asked if the Uncle Fester spin-off was still in the works at Netflix while on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Fred Armisen simply said, “Yeah. It’s fantastic. It’s amazing.”

Armisen went on to imply that Tim Burton, who has served as executive producer on Wednesday and directed several episodes in season one, was set to be involved with the Uncle Fester spin-off series.

The Uncle Fester spin-off series was first reported to be in development back in 2023, after Wednesday season one became one of the most-watched shows on Netflix. Predictably, there hasn’t been much word on when or how a spin-off would take shape, so the confirmation that it was still in development is probably as good as we’re going to get. Most likely, the team is moving forward with the now confirmed season three of the show before they worry about any potential spin-offs.

Until more details arise, you can still see Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester (shaved head and all) in season two of Wednesday, now streaming on Netflix.
