Wednesday season 2 on Netflix introduces an Uncle Fester that's a mix of the actors who played him before, plus a healthy dose of mischief, explains actor Fred Armisen
"He's always giggling," the actor explained. Yes, because Uncle Fester is always up to something.

Every member of the Addams Family is important to a show like Wednesday, but aside from the titular heroine/budding sociopath, one of the most iconic characters in the clan is Uncle Fester. The latest person to portray the most eccentric member of the Addams Family in live-action, Fred Armisen, said he is drawing from past portrayals and tapping into the fun side of the character for the upcoming Wednesday season two on Netflix.
During an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, Fred Armisen talked about how he tried to tap into what past actors have done to bring Uncle Fester to life without doing a mere impression of what has come before. “On my phone, I watched the original TV show with Jackie Coogan, and I just like watched his expressions just to get the voice and everything. And Christopher Lloyd also did the character, so I had some of that in there. But I tried to sort of honor the tradition of the role. I just wanted to deliver on it. So I watched a bit of that.”
But this is obviously a different Uncle Fester, just like it is a different Wednesday Addams for the Netflix show, so Fred Armisen was sure to bring out some of the whimsical parts of the character as well. “I like that he got like all these passports,” he explained. “He just sort of travels everywhere. And he’s always giggling. Like he’s laughing at all the mischief that he’s up to. He’s enjoying life and the underground.”
Part 1 of Wednesday season two is out now on Netflix.
