Sigourney Weaver, iconic star of Aliens, Avatar, and Star Wars movies, is close to joining Prime Video's Tomb Raider series

Sophie Turner is starring as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider from Prime Video, but the Game of Thrones star may be joined by Sigourney Weaver when production starts next year.

There isn’t much that Sigourney Weaver hasn’t done in her long acting career. She’s fought aliens in Aliens and busted ghosts in Ghostbusters. In 2026, she’s travelling to the Star Wars universe in The Mandalorian and Grogu and has spent years on Pandora in the Avatar series. Turns out, there could be another iconic franchise she’s got her eyes on, with reports that Sigourney Weaver will star in the upcoming Tomb Raider series alongside Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner.

Sophie Turner has already signed on to play Lara Croft in the Prime Video Tomb Raider series, with Sigourney Weaver close to signing a deal to appear in the series. The reports don’t say who Weaver would play in the Tomb Raider series, and they stress that she hasn’t closed a deal with Prime Video, so we’re left wondering who the iconic Avatar and Alien actor could be portraying. There is always the possibility she’ll play an older Lara Croft to Sophie Turner, but it feels more likely that she’ll be either a mentor or a villain character.

The new Tomb Raider series from Prime Video doesn’t have a release date yet and is set to go into production on January 19, 2025. How Sigourney Weaver will fit into the show is still very much up in the air, but we expect new details to come out in the new year. The series is the latest adaptation of the Tomb Raider video game series, which has spanned multiple films and animated series, with Netflix streaming the second season of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft in December 2025.
