Daryl Dixon actor Norman Reedus says some of The Walking Dead survivors looked and dressed too good for the apocalypse

Daryl Dixon actor Norman Reedus says The Walking Dead could’ve done a better job at making their characters look like they were in a zombie apocalypse

When society crumbles, everything we know goes with it. A zombie apocalypse would mean the end of mass media, mass transit, and most of the basic comforts in our modern society.

Well, maybe not every basic comfort.

If you watch The Walking Dead, you’ll see the survivors struggle in their quest to rebuild society. However, some of those survivors are a little too groomed, and their clothes are a bit too nice. This criticism isn’t coming from a random viewer on Reddit, it’s coming from one of the series biggest stars.

Norman Reedus played Daryl Dixon on all 11 seasons of The Walking Dead and is currently starring in the spinoff The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. During the first season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, there was talk of Reedus getting a cleaner hairstyle, but he thought the character should keep his scruffy look.

“I just figured Supercuts shut down in an apocalypse,” Norman Reedus says during a Walking Dead spotlight panel at New York Comic Con 2023. “[Showrunner] Scott Wilson and I had a thing where we’re like, ‘Don’t cut it.’ It bothered me sometimes on [The Walking Dead] that people’s pants got tighter. There was makeup on people. All this stuff. And if you remember where that show went, everybody got more and more feral.”

Looking through episodes of The Walking Dead, this is hard to miss, especially during the later seasons. I suppose the survivors figured that society crumbling was stressful, so they might as well make themselves look nice.
