The Penguin might return for a second season after all, says The Batman writer/director (and this was before Cristin Miloti's Emmy win)

Colin Farrell seemed less convinced, but that doesn't mean we won't see him back on HBO Max as The Penguin.

Within DC Studios are two futures: one, according to star Colin Farrell, where The Penguin season two doesn’t exist, and another, according to The Batman director Matt Reeves, where it does. After months of denials by the actor behind the Batman villain, Reeves has confirmed that there are talks about bringing him back for another go, whether he knows about it or not.

In an interview at the Emmys red carpet (just hours before Cristin Miloti won for lead actress in a limited series for her role in The Penguin season one), Matt Reeves described the lengths they are going to keep the script for The Batman, Part II under wraps. He also let slip that The Penguin could be back for another season.

“We’re in discussions. [Showrunner] Lauren [Lefranc] is thinking hard and we’re talking, so we’ll see," Reeves said. "We love the show, and we think our cast is so incredible. The work that Lauren and the writers did was incredible. Our passion was in it, but never in our wildest dreams could we imagine it would have been received in the way it was.”

This is a big change from last year, when Colin Farrell said he was reluctant to come back to The Penguin simply because of the heavy prosthetics he had to wear in the role. It also follows months of Farrell insisting that no one had told him anything about a potential second season. However, if Lefranc can figure out a way to make the story work, this might not be the last time that we see Gotham streaming on HBO Max.
